If the death has just happened

The first steps can depend on where the death occurred.

At home
If the person was expected to die at home, contact their doctor or nurse first. If the death was unexpected or you are unsure, call emergency services.
In a hospital or care facility
Staff will guide you on what happens next. You can contact us whenever you feel ready, and we can liaise with the facility on your behalf.
If you are unsure
Call us. We can help you understand the next steps and what needs to happen first.
