Uncle Ash! Thank you for being the most fantastic “uncle-in-law” I could ever imagine! The stay Zinzan, Jen and I had with you and Junnette almost 14 years ago in your home in Whanganui is one the best times of my life! Below is a poem that represent life for me! As Albert Einstein said: “Energy cannot be created or destroyed, only transformed”. This is not the end, only a transformation. I’m sure we meet again! Love from all of us in Sweden/Katarina

Spring morning
Where am I going? I don't quite know.
Down to the stream where the king-cups grow-
Up on the hill where the pine-trees blow-
Anywhere, anywhere. I don't know.

Where am I going? The clouds sail by,
Little ones, baby ones, over the sky.
Where am I going? The shadows pass,
Little ones, baby ones, over the grass.

If you were a cloud, and sailed up there,
You'd sail on water as blue as air,
And you'd see me here in the fields and say:
"Doesn't the sky look green today?"

Where am I going? The high rooks call:
"It's awful fun to be born at all."
Where am I going? The ring-doves coo:
"We do have beautiful things to do."

If you were a bird, and lived on high,
You'd lean on the wind when the wind came by,
You'd say to the wind when it took you away:
"That's where I wanted to go today!"

Where am I going? I don't quite know.
What does it matter where people go?
Down to the wood where the blue-bells grow-
Anywhere, anywhere. I don't know.

Uncle Ash, our hearts are full of love and gratitude as we say goodbye. You were the last of Mum´s siblings, and with your passing she becomes the sole surviving member of the Ward family. This brings both sadness and a deep appreciation for all the years we shared.
You proudly carried forward your grandfather Joseph Ward´s remarkable legacy. As founder of the Whanganui Ward Observatory, he sparked a deep passion for the stars. Through your own love of building and preserving telescopes, you kept this special astronomical heritage alive, sharing the `magic´ with everyone around you.
To my mother Jennifer, your beloved sister, you were a constant source of connection and shared memories. To all your nieces and nephews from Sweden to New Zealand, you were the warm-hearted uncle with a wonderful sense of humour who loved playing with words, listening to heartfelt music, and remained a forever supporter of the Unix OS, HiFi, and all things Whanganui. Your quiet strength, gentle wit, and generous spirit will live on in every story we tell and every telescope we admire.
Thank you for the love, the laughter, and the rich legacy you leave behind. We will miss you dearly.
Rest peacefully, dear Ash. You are forever in our hearts.
