Peter John (Pete). Reid

Passed away peacefully in Broadview, on Monday 21st September 2026 (aged 80 years), with Rema by his side.

A fully lived life. Pete loved being a husband, a granddad, a friend, a teacher and a sportsman.

He was a dearly loved husband of Rema and cherished Grandfather (Pop) to his whanau: Melissa, Tim, Josh, Jessie, Nate Rankin-Mills and Jackie, Mathew, Samuel, Theo Pitchforth, and Quentin Chilcott and Aisling. Adored brother to Jude.

A special thanks to his caregivers and staff at Broadview and Jane Winston.

A service to celebrate Pete’s life will be held in the Cleveland Chapel, 179 Ingestre Street on Saturday 26th September 2026 at 2pm. This is very sad news. Peter was an exceptional teacher and mentor during my time at Wanganui Boys College. He was a once-in-a-lifetime teacher who changed lives.
He generously devoted his time to cricket, basketball, and many other school activities, while also offering the life advice we needed as we prepared to enter the wider world.
Thank you, Peter. You were an inspiring, brilliant, and kind leader.
You will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
My sincere condolences to the family.

Peter was one of a kind. From his teaching to his coaching of cricket and his views on life, he changed many lives, including mine. Peter will be solely missed. My sincerest condolences to the family.

So sad to read this. He was an incredible mentor and tennis team manager to our son during his time at Whanganui High School and he was always great fun at the Whanganui Tennis courts. He loved playing masters tennis in the mixed doubles with the late Anne Rowe and they drew a crowd of supporters as they were a talented and formidable pairing. He was always interested in hearing about how his past pupils were getting on post secondary school and he enjoyed a chat whenever you bumped into him around town. Such a great guy. RIP.

Sorry to hear of Mr Reid’s passing.

An amazing teacher in my years at Wanganui Boys College. Also the time he put in to the Wanganui Boys College cricket 1st XI team while I was there was greatly appreciated.
My sincere condolences to his family.
Apologies for being unable to attend his service on Saturday.
